Nobody has to choose a language with her, which matters more than it sounds in a city where half the conversations in a canal-side hotel open with an apology. Belgian by passport and barely out of her teens by a year, she talks very little once the warmth is up: the glide is the point and she keeps it going longer than most. Her touch begins light and turns heavy without ever announcing the change, which is harder than she makes it look. Dinner first and the room afterwards is a booking she takes often and does well, and she has never once needed telling how the evening is going.
